Richmond, Va. (1140wrva.com) - After yesterday's deadly tornadoes in Oklahoma, the Capital Regionl of the American Red Cross and other chapters throughout the state are standing by to see if their help is going to be needed. Nationally, the Red Cross has response vehicles, a leadership team and others heading for Oklahoma. Johnathan McNamara with the Capital Region of the American Red Cross says they're waiting for the assessment that's being done of the scope of damage there.
They're going through their volunteer list and checking availability of their volunteers and they're ready to deploy at a moment's notice. McNamara says disasters like this should remind you to download the Red Cross preparedness app, which will help you prepare for tornadoes that might hit our state. The best way to help out is to go here. Or you can text "90999" and that will allow you to make a 10 dollar donation.
